New England Heritage
Summer and early autumn are the perfect times of year to enjoy the glorious vistas of New England as you tour everything from quaint cottages to landmarks of historical significance. Join us as we visit the inlands and islands that will take you on an extraordinary journey through America’s first and foremost coastal countryside. Boston and Plymouth Rock Your journey begins in Boston, the cradle of American liberty where you’ll follow the Freedom Trail. History comes to life at the Old and New State Houses, Paul Revere House and Boston Common, and gives you a chance to truly understand the making of the American Revolution. Then it’s on to Plymouth Rock, where the Pilgrims landed in 1620 and home of the Mayflower II, an authentic reproduction of the original ship. You’re in for a special treat this evening as our tour makes its way to Cape Cod for a traditional New England lobsterbake, caught fresh from the ocean. Martha’s Vineyard -– A Haven for Celebrities Your tour continues with a morning ferry ride to Martha’s Vineyard, where you’ll be delighted with the charm and diversity of four different island towns. The Vineyard has long been known as one of the Northeast’s most prominent summer havens for celebrities. Who knows who you might run into? Martha’s Vineyard also set the scene for all the action in the Jaws movies, using lots of local extras. From architecture to natural beauty to history, each town has its own distinct character you’re sure to enjoy. Enchanting Nantucket You’ll sail to Nantucket, a National Historic District with its multitude of 18th- and 19th-century buildings and cobblestone streets, making you feel like you’ve gone back 200 years the moment you set foot on the island. Antique shops, charming inns and interesting museums welcome you. We’ll see the Old Mill and St. Paul’s Church with its Tiffany glass windows. See the Unitarian Church and pass the homes of former sea captains, now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. A delicious seafood dinner awaits you back in Cape Cod! Hyannis and Newport, Rhode Island Luxury Under Sails No tour of this area is complete without a stop in Hyannis, summer residence of the Kennedy family. Then your tour moves on to picturesque Newport with its famous mansions and sailboats dotting the rocky, rugged landscape. We’ll tour one of the great estates, Vanderbilt’s Breakers Mansion, and get a glimpse of how the rich and famous lived in luxury. What they considered a quaint “summer cottage” will simply take your breath away! Join us for dinner in Newport. Block Island - The Environmental Island Just 12 miles off the Rhode Island coast lies Block Island, truly nature's treasure on the sea. Rich in history with miles of sandy beaches, Block Island takes pride in its conservation efforts as well as some of the best bird watching in the country. Our one-hour cruise brings you to a world that time forgot. A local guide will show you the Southeast Lighthouse, moved back from the eroding cliffs, as well as some of the island’s ecological pursuits. Then you’ll have plenty of time to shop at the Old Harbor and enjoy lunch at one of the island’s many fine restaurants. At night, we return to Newport for our farewell dinner. Create Your own Lasting Memories from Three Delightful Islands Take pride in your American heritage and return with memories of this sea coast experience you’ll cherish forever.
