Boston – The American Revolution and Beyond
Your journey starts in Boston, one of America’s oldest cities. Founded in 1630, Boston is a bustling, vibrant city filled with history, tradition and old world elegance. From museums to sports to fresh seafood to ethnic cuisine, you’ll feel a real sense of European influence, still prevalent today. The American Revolution plays out as you follow along the Freedom Trail, from the Public Garden to the Old North Church to Paul Revere’s House. Explore Faneuil Hall, a festival market complex of shops, food stands and restaurants. Learn more at the Lexington Visitor’s Center, where its battle took place on the village green. Continue on your history trail to Concord with a stop at the North Bridge Visitor’s Center in the Minuteman National Historic Park. Colorful Maine – Designated National Scenic Byways Ride through gorgeous mountain country where you’ll spot spectacular foliage, crystal clear lakes, covered bridges and wildlife sightings along this coastal drive. Was that a moose? Or an elk? Make sure your cameras are ready! A visit to Kennubunkport, the famous Bush family compound and home to other celebrities, will give you a glimpse of magnificent seaside estates. And keep your cameras on alert as you view Maine’s jagged shoreline, dotted with historic lighthouses and high cliffs. A fresh seafood dinner awaits you on the waterfront in Maine. New Hampshire – Home to the Mount Washington Cog Railway Fascinating historic sites defining the early American spirit run rich in the Granite State. Almost everywhere, you’ll see evidence of Native American as well as colonial history. Scenic two-lane roads wind through the countryside as you ascend the White Mountains to the highest peak in the Northeast, Mount Washington. Climb aboard the Mount Washington Cog Railway and travel up through what may be the steepest tracks in the world as well as witness the brilliant crimsons and golds of fall. Quick...did you spot that white tail deer? New Hampshire was also known for its famous “Old Man of the Mountain” rock formation, which you’ll have an opportunity to see where it once stood. And you’ll experience an equally awesome display of New Hampshire’s autumn foliage along the Kancamagus Highway. Vermont – Over 50 State Parks Although Vermont means “green mountains” in French, the state is known for its spectacular fall color show, white clapboard villages and tree-covered mountains. Vermont boasts 50 state parks, including the Green Mountain National Forest. While Vermont’s maple syrup season takes place in the spring, there’s still plenty of maple syrup products to enjoy like maple syrup, maple candy and maple butter to bring back home. Visit one of Vermont’s state parks, Quechee Gorge, an impressive river chasm, often considered Vermont’s “Little Grand Canyon.” Newport, Rhode Island Picturesque Newport boasts famed mansions and sailboats dotting the rocky, rugged landscape. We’ll tour one of these famous estates, Vanderbilt’s Breakers Mansion, and get a glimpse of how America’s most elite families lived at the turn of the century. Martha’s Vineyard – Playground of the Rich and Famous The Vineyard has long been known as one of the Northeast’s most prominent havens for celebrities, including former President Bill Clinton and his family. Who knows who you might run into? As your morning ferry ride takes you to the resort island of Martha’s Vineyard, you’ll be delighted with the charm of Edgartown, with its gingerbread cottages and narrow streets. Martha’s Vineyard also set the scene for all the action in the Jaws movies, using lots of local extras. Plymouth Rock - The Pilgrim’s Pride Our last stop takes you to Hyannis, summer home of the Kennedy family and the JFK Memorial. Then it’s on to Plymouth Rock, where the Pilgrims landed in 1620. Here you’ll get a look at the Mayflower II, an authentic reproduction of the original ship.
